That #$%$#^& Milling Deck Non-Competitive Modern Deck

I have owned many Magic the Gathering decks over the years and this seems to be the one that my opponents hate the most. It only wins a fair number of games, but the reason my opponents hate it is because nobody likes being milled. It’s a lot harder to play when all your future options keep going directly to the graveyard or exile zone. It also works as an excellent revenge deck against opponents whose deck keeps winning. Many good decks do not hold up well against milling.

Milling decks either have a lot of creatures or very few to none at all. This deck uses a lot of creatures in an attempt to hold off the enemy until I’m able to completely mill him out. The Fog Banks and Guard Gomazoa act like indestructible blockers and the Riddlekeeper punishes the enemy for every attack. The Hedron Crabs are there to mill with landfall and their effect is doubled whenever I play an Evolving Wild.

The Planeswalkers are pretty typical for a milling deck. Jace’s zero ability mills 10 of your opponent’s cards and Ashiok exiles 3 every turn or takes a creature he exiled and puts it under your control.

Sorceries are the core of this deck. Traumatize cuts your opponents deck in half and Bojuka Bog ensures that they can never get those cards back. Archive Trap is one of the few cards in this game that punishes players for searching their deck. It’s an effective countermeasure against Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse. Mind Grind mills all opponents and is highly effective in 2 headed giant. Treasure Hunt sometimes helps you get land and tome scour mills early in the game.

This deck has gone through many transformations over the years and will continue to do so. Non-competitive decks always can use improvement. Feel free to comment below if you have any suggestions. This is a fun deck and I’m always willing to try new cards with it.

    • Hi Rob. Deja Vu. I just received in the mail 2 Glimpse the Unthinkable, 2 Leyline of the Void and 1 Fraying Sanity. I have one more Fraying Sanity on the way. Several people recommended Glimpse the Unthinkable and I appreciate the advice. I’ve updated the deck list.
